DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR ALL THE COMPETITIVE GROUPS
SEASON 2025-2026
As the club continues to grow, we have to introduce new steps in order to organize work more efficiently and challenge our skaters to improve every step of the way. We believe that these small adjustments will help achieve that. And, as the technical level of the club grows, we hope to increase the criteria for advancement to all groups (except 3; test as required by NSF) in the
following seasons.
As the level grows, so does the training plan for each individual groups. Each group will be training elements appropriate for their level and all skaters will train adequately challenging elements, no matter what the name of the group they are in.
Youth/Adult Advanced
This group includes skaters who started skating after turning 11 who still want to pursue a competitive aspect of the sport.
Skaters in the advanced group will have 2 ice sessions (min 40min) and one off ice session. If additional ice becomes available, it is possible to have occasional additional hours. Skaters in this group will compete in the youth artistic category and veteran and veteran artistic categories in Norway. In the international competitions they will compete in the age and skill appropriate non-ISU category. Ideally the skaters would attend at least one competition per semester in Norway. Additionally at least one international competition per semester will be offered on time.
Group 3
Group 3 will be divided into three subgroups, 3a, 3b and 3c. They will all have same training hours – this is just to more easily divide skaters between coaches and also give skaters a clearer idea on what they need to achieve before moving to group 2. Also, when and if there is an extra training for group 2 and we want to include some additional skaters, it is easier to invite 3a than skaters specifically by name. When there are two coaches on group 3, the more experienced coach will have two groups. In rare cases it is possible to have the entire group with one coach in which case the entire group will uniformly be working on the same plan of basic skating skills
– edges, steps and turns.
NSF Test 1 which includes:
3c
Skaters freshly moved from skating school and skaters who have not yet achieved requirements for 3b. NSF test 1 is required to be included.
NSF Test 1 which includes:
- Forward outside and inside edges
- Ponnyhop on circle both ways
- Turning on curve both ways
- Chasse on circle both ways forward and backward
- Good control and speed of backward skating
3b
Skaters need to achieve ALL of the following in order to be included:
NSF Test 2 which includes the following elements:
- all edges (forward outside/inside, backward outside/inside)
- waltz threeturns
- nice crossovers forward and backward (good rhythm, glide, free foot placement)
- waltz jump
- two footed spin (5 rounds)
- forward spiral on circle (free leg over hip height and hold 3 sec)
3a
Skaters need to achieve ALL of the following in order to be included:
NSF test 3 which includes the following elements:
- Waltz jump, 1S, 1T
- Forward inside threeturn both ways
- Correct landing position on circle with lots of speed
- Backward outside crossrolls
- Forward outside double threeturn
- Forward inside double threeturn
- Mohawk step on circle
- One footed upright spin (5 rounds)
- Slyngetrinn
Skaters in group 3 are encouraged to attend as many, if not all, ice and off ice practices as this is the best way to ensure their improvement at this stage. They will learn the proper way to warm up and stretch and they should implement that routine before/after practice as soon as possible.
Group 2
Group 2 will be divided into two subgroups, 2a and 2b. They will all have same training hours – this is just to more easily divide skaters between coaches and also give skaters a clearer idea on what they need to achieve before moving to group 1b. If extra ice is available for group 2, they will occasionally be split into two groups in order to ensure optimal training. Also in cases of
diminished ice availability, group 2a may be given training hours with group 1.
2b
Skaters need to achieve ALL the following in order to be included:
- 1S, 1T, 1Lo, 1Eu
- Correct landing position with speed on circle
- Forward and backward outside double threeturn
- Threeturn/mohawk/crossover combination steps
- “step on all ice rink” combo
- Upright spin on 1 foot with entry and landing position, min 4 revolutions
- Backward upright spin
- Sit spin
- Shoot the duck move (up and down on 1 foot)
2a
Skaters need to achieve ALL of the following in order to be included:
- All single jumps and combinations
- All 4 double threeturns
- Combination steps of threeturns/mohawks/crossovers
- Sit spin, 5 rotations (standing leg at 90◦ angle or less)
- Parallel spin, 5 rotations (free leg both knee and foot above hip level, standing leg fully
extended) - Forward inside double twizzle
- A good backward upright spin and variations (with clear acceleration)
- train (be close to) 1A and at least one other double jump
Skaters in group 2 are expected to warm up before ice by themselves and work on their flexibility daily (stretching).
Skaters in group 2 are eligible to get a competitive program as soon as the coaches decide that they are ready with all necessary elements and are encouraged to participate at as many competitions as they can.
Skaters in group 2 are required to attend a minimum of 75% of club practices (injury and illness not included). They are also expected to attend all off ice trainings except in case of illness and injury.
Group 1
Group 1 will be divided into two subgroups – 1a and 1b. If extra ice is available for group 1, they will occasionally be split into two groups in order to ensure optimal training; unless otherwise specified, they will have same training hours. Also in cases of diminished ice availability, group 1a may be given training hours with group Elite.
Skaters need to achieve ALL of the following in order to be included (all jumps must be performed in competition and verified by a technical specialist):
1b
- 1A
- At least 1 cleanly rotated and landed double jump
- Close on at least two other double jump
- Spin in all 3 basic positions (upright, sit, parallel) + combo spin
- At least 3 different difficult features for spins (any spin)
- All double twizzles with good control
- Being able to follow the group’s skating skill level
- Attending all on and off ice practice regularly – 80% attendance (excluding illness/injury)
- Polite and respectful attitude towards the coaches and other skaters on ice.

attendance - Polite and respectful attitude towards the coaches and other skaters on ice.
Skaters in group 1 are expected to warm up before ice by themselves and work on their flexibility daily (stretching). They are also expected to do running exercise by themselves as assigned by the coaches.
We recommend that the skaters in group 1 have at least 2 competitions per semester. Skaters in group 1 are required to attend a minimum of 80%/85% of club practices (injury and illness not included).
Group Elite
Group Elite is divided into 2 subgroups – gold and silver. If extra ice is available for group Elite, they will occasionally be split into two groups in order to ensure optimal training. Elite Gold will have priority when assigning extra ice and resources. Unless otherwise specified, they will have same training hours.
Elite Gold will have option for extra music runs on practice. This will not influence the planned music runs for other skaters on Elite.
Skaters in Elite are expected to set an example for all the other skaters in the club when it comes to discipline, respect and work ethic on competitions as well as every day at practice.
Skaters in Elite are required to attend a minimum of 85% of club practices (injury and illness not included). Also skaters in this group are expected to warm up before ice practice and work every day on their own flexibility.
Skaters in Elite need to be eligible to qualify and participate at NM and international competitions (turning 13 in the season); in special circumstances coaches (in coordination with the SU) can lower that age to 12 if a skater shows great potential, in order to prepare them for the NM/international season in advance.
All elements required to be in Elite need to be confirmed in competition by a complete Technical panel (1x TC, 2x TS and full review set up).

attendance
Gold
Any 1 of the following 2 criteria + all criteria for Elite Silver
- 2A or any triple jump landed in competition (full TechPanel and review)
- Podium placement in NM in following categories – Debs, Novice, Junior or Senior
Skaters in group Elite are expected to warm up before ice by themselves and work on their flexibility daily (stretching). They are also expected to do running exercise by themselves as assigned by the coaches.
Since skaters in Elite are a part of the NC circuit and eligible for NM/LM, we expect them to attend all the competitions that are required to reach their goals. International competitions will be offered. Skaters in Elite Gold and skaters who are on National/Rekrutt team are expected to participate in all competitions assigned by the Federation.
Skaters in group Elite are required to attend a minimum of 85% of club practices (injury and illness not included).
Sammen mot toppen
The Federation picks skaters for National and Rekrutt teams, however the coaches/club enter skater(s) for the Sammen mot Toppen program. The same skaters can be entered for a maximum of one cycle (January/May/Aug-Sep), after that it is up to the skaters to show good improvement and results to the NSF on competitions and the club will enter new skaters in the new cycle in January.
